Because of how the Barkas makes use of the Wartburg running gear, the shifter is nearly under the driver’s armpit. Not very convenient, from the pictures I’ve seen.

I’ll guess the Barkas is in Zittau.
I always associate Simson with Poland. I think they also had a small batch of cars before the war.
